Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been hospitalised after suffering a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan(BKSP) grounds in Savar on Monday.
Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the medical officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said that Tamim suffered a heart attack.
“He is currently at the cardiac care unit of the hospital. His condition is better now,” Dr. Debashis said.
Tamim, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, took part in the toss against Shinepukur Cricket Club but later complained of discomfort in his chest.
He was initially treated at the ground before being taken to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar located near the BKSP complex for further medical attention.
Tariqul Islam, a Mohammedan official, confirmed UNB that Tamim is currently admitted at KPJ Specialized Hospital.
“Tamim is under medical care now. We urge everyone to pray for his quick recovery,” he said.
Tamim’s condition was initially considered serious enough for a possible airlift to Dhaka. But, medical personnel advised against the transfer due to his stability at the time, and he was shifted instead to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar.
In response to the sudden health scare, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed its scheduled board meeting, which was due to begin at 12pm.
