Third day's play of Kanpur Test also washed out
The Day 3 game of the second and final Test
between Bangladesh and India was called off without a ball being bowled at
Green Park in Kanpur today.
The Test saw only 35 overs action so far on rain-interrupted Day 1 before the
Day 2 was also washed out.
The overnight rain in Kanpur, a prominent city of India's Uttar Pradesh,
caused the damage even though there was no rain at all since Day 3 morning.
There were plenty of wet patches in the outfield, which could be fatal for
the players. Also the drainage system of the ground was so poor that it
didn't allow the groundstaff to prepare it for any action on Day 3.
The groundstaff tried to dry parts of the outfield for the first hour, the
commentators of the match said. But after that the activity was nonexistent.
Earlier, on Day 1, India captain Rohit Sharma put Bangladesh into bat first
after winning the toss.
Bangladesh then survived some hostile bowling of Indian bowlers to reach 107-
3 with Mominul Haque batting on 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 6. Captain Najmul
Hossain Shanto was the other notable scorer with 31.
Indian pacer Akash Deep Singh claimed 2-34 in 10 overs while Ravichandran
Ashwin ended with 1-22.
India lead the two-match series 1-0 following its 280-run victory in the
first Test in Chennai.
