AL committing misdeeds under shelter of different political figures: Mirza Abbas

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Mirza Abbas has said that Awami League (AL) is committing misdeeds across the country under the umbrella of various political figures.

“The cunning Awami League activists have now infiltrated various parties, including BNP-Jamaat . . . They are trying to survive by taking shelter under the umbrella of various political figures,” he said.

Mirza Abbas was speaking at a training workshop titled ’31-point for repairing the state structure and public engagement', organized by BNP at the Shahjahanpur Railway Officers Club ground in the city this afternoon.

He added: “In disguise of their political identities, Awami League leaders and activists are engaging in various misdeeds, including extortion and grabbing anything illegally . . . They are committing misdeeds and spreading slander in the name of BNP workers. They should be identified and expelled from the party.”

Mirza Abbas said, “I have 100 workers in one area, two of them are bad, mischievous and do evil deeds. But my 98 workers are not bad. Therefore, all my workers won’t take the responsibility of the two people and this cannot be allowed to happen further.”

Warning the party leaders and activists, he said, “Remember this, there will be no place for miscreants, criminals, and extortionists in BNP. If there is a threat to public safety, none will be spared at all”.

This senior BNP leader bitterly criticized the activities of Awami League and said, “Bangladesh is not the wealth (Talukder) of Sheikh Hasina and her father . . . This Bangladesh belongs to the people.”

Without naming the political parties which are opposing the elections, he said, “Those who talk long and hard that we will not be allowed to hold elections today, can they say with their hands on their chests how many of their leaders and activists were martyred in the July-August movement. 422 leaders and activists of BNP were martyred in one month.”

Referring to a 31-point outline that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has taken to make the country economically self-reliant and ensure political solidarity, Mirza Abbas urged the interim government to look into the 31-point where all the issues of reforms are mentioned there.

Mirza Abbas said, "There are some greedy politicians, there are some greedy political parties, who oppose only for the sake of opposition.”

Dhaka South City Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu presided over the workshop.

Among others, BNP leaders - Tanvir Ahmed Robin, Habibur Rashid Habib, Mirza Khokon of Dhaka South City BNP joint convener Liton Mahmud, K Sikandar Kadir and Saidur Rahman Mintu also spoke on the occasion.
