If polls held within logical time, existing challenges can be dealt: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said if election is held within a logical timeframe, it will be possible to deal with the existing challenges of the country.

“We hope that the interim government will be able to hold election in due time,” he told journalists after paying tributes to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman by placing wreaths at his mazar in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Mirza Fakhrul along with party leaders and activists placed a wreath at Ziaur Rahman’s grave marking the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day. Doa and munajat were also offered on the occasion.

Marking the day, national flag was hoisted atop BNP’s Nayapaltan central office and other offices at the dawn.

Asked about the activities of the interim government of three months, the BNP secretary general said the government did many works and it is doing.

“I believe that if we all cooperate with the government and if they have been able to hold an election within a logical timeframe, it will be possible to face the challenges existing before the nation,” he said.

The fascist Awami League regime always hatched conspiracies to destroy BNP and carried out repression and torture on the party men, he mentioned.

Mirza Fakhrul said false cases were lodged by Awami League regime against 60 lakh people and around 700 people became victims of enforced disappearance.
“They wanted to establish fascism and one-party rule by killing and forcefully disappearing thousands of people,” he added.

He said authoritarianism has been toppled and fascism has been defeated for the second time through the mass uprising of August 5.
“Today we have taken an oath that we will resist authoritarianism. If required we will wage strong movement,” he said.
