A Dhaka court has placed senior journalists Mozammel Haque Babu, Shyamal Dutta and President of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir on a seven-day remand in two separate murder cases.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah granted the remand period on Tuesday.

Earlier, they were produced before the court and the investigation officer requested a 10-day remand for them. The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Tejgaon arrested Shahriar, a journalist, filmmaker, human rights activist and author, at his home in Banani at around 12:30am on Tuesday.

On Monday, journalists Mozammel Haque Babu and Shyamal Dutta were detained by locals while allegedly attempting to cross into India through the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh on Monday. They were later handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) by the Dhobaura police station.
