Khaleda Zia’s bank accounts active after 16 years
All bank accounts of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been directed to activate after 16 years.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) sent to Bangladesh Bank on Monday regarding the activation of all bank accounts of Khaleda Zia. The letter will be forwarded to all financial institutions on Tuesday.
After consulting with Dr Muhammed Yunus, chief adviser of the interim government, newly appointed chairman of NBR Abdur Rahman Khan gave this decision, sources confirmed.
In 2007, during the caretaker government’s tenure, the bank accounts of both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina were frozen. While Sheikh Hasina’s accounts were later unfrozen by authorities and Khaleda Zia’s accounts remained blocked despite multiple requests from BNP over the past 15 years of the Awami League regime.
