Vested quarter trying to foil the victory achieved by students and people: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday alleged a vested quarter is trying to foil the victory achieved by the students and people.
"Some people are now plotting and conspiring to destroy the victory of the students and people. They are trying to attack our party leaders and activists unjustly by creating disturbances in different areas," he said.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the grave of BNP's founder President Ziaur Rahman in the city on the occasion of the 44th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal, an associate body of BNP.
Swecchasebak Dal leaders and activists led by its president SM Jilani and general secretary Rajib Ahsan paid tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman by placing flowers at his grave.
"We want to say clearly that any of our party's leaders are in no way involved in any sort of chaos. Rather we are trying to stop it. That's why everyone should stay vigilant," said the BNP Secretary General.
He unequivocally said they want a new democratic Bangladesh. "We want to build a new Bangladesh by establishing equal rights and justice," he added.
About placing wreath at the grave of Ziaur Rahman, Fakhrul said they have vowed to consolidate the victory achieved by the student-led mass movement now.
"Our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia has been released. She has been freed," he said.
The BNP Secretary General said some who were imprisoned in this democratic movement have been released and some still remain detained.
"We are making arrangements for the release of all," he said.
BNP joint secretary general Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, BNP's Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Safu and BNP Dhaka North City Unit member secretary Aminul Haque were present.
