Hasina and Shamim sued for Narayanganj killing

A case was filed against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former lawmaker Shamim Osman and 45 others on charge of killing a youth during the August 5 clash in Narayanganj.

Victim Abul Hasan's elder brother Abul Bashar lodged the case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on Saturday night, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Sattar.

Abul Hasan, a 20-year-old sales representative for a soft drink company, was from Kushiyara area in Bandar upazila of the district.

The other accused included former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former State Minister for Information and Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former Jatiya Party MP Selim Osman, Shamim Osman's nephew Azmeri Osman, Ayon Osman, Shamim Osman's brother-in-law Tanveer Ahmed and Narayanganj City Corporation's panel mayor and Awami League leader Abdul Karim, among others.

Moreover, around 200 unnamed people were sued in the case.

According to the case statement, Abul Hasan was shot and killed on August 5 at around 1:30pm in the Missionpara area of the city. The complaint alleges that Hasan was killed by Ayon Osman under the direction of Sheikh Hasina and other accused, as part of a broader violent clash between protesters and Awami League leaders and workers.

On August 5, just hours before Hasina announced her resignation, Abul Hasan was shot during ongoing clashes in the Chashara area. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical but succumbed to injuries following morning
