BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday called upon his party leaders and activists to set an example by serving as a protective shield in their localities across the country for ensuring the safety of all individuals regardless of their caste or creed.
 
While addressing virtually a mammoth rally in front of BNP's Nayapaltan Central office, he also urged the administration to strictly control the law and order situation as what he said 'a plot is on to destabilise the country'.
 
The BNP leader demanded that a national election must be arranged as soon as possible to establish an elected government in the country.
 
"At this moment, I specifically urge the leaders and activists of the BNP, the largest political party in the country, to set an example by standing as a shield to protect your friends and neighbours, regardless of their beliefs or identities-whether they are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, or Christians," he said.
 
Tarique also called upon the country's people and all democratic political parties to resist the current anarchic situation. "We can't get defeated to the anarchy of the conspirators."
 
He said a plot has been hatched to unstable the entire country for harming the ongoing process of resorting democracy.
 
"I would like to call upon the administration to strictly control the law and order. Ensure the safety and security of all individuals' people so that no one feels insecure due to the identity of their caste and creed. We must address this as a priority," he said.
 
Tarique also urged the people to catch if even the BNP leaders and activists try to indulge in violence and crimes and hand them over to the administration.
 
"If someone breaks the rules, file a police complaint against him/her as well. No one will take the law into their own hands," he said.
 
Mentioning that the police are not the enemy of the people, the BNP leader said the 'unelected' Sheikh Hasina regime forced the police to stand against the people. After the escape of Sheikh Hasina, a quarter is trying to break the morale of the police and they're trying to create an unstable situation in the country."
 
He congratulated the students and the people irrespective of their party and opinion, to ensure the fall of the autocratic regime Sheikh Hasina. "The people of the country witnessed a new freedom in 2024. The nation will ever remember their contributions."
 
Tarique emphasized that power must be transferred to a government elected by the people as quickly as possible. "If everyone remains united, we can build a safer country for the youth of our nation."
 
Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 05 last, the BNP arranged its first public rally at Nayapaltan with participation of tens of thousands of people.
 
The rally formally began around 2:40 pm on Wednesday (August 07, 2024) with the recitation from the holy Quran.
