Fakhrul confident new Dhaka city committees will bolster anti-government movement

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday hoped that the newly formed committees of their party's two Dhaka city units will play a pivotal role in intensifying the opposition's anti-government street movement.

He also said the newly formed committees of BNP's Dhaka South and North city units were formed with dynamic young leaders of the party.

"We hope that the newly formed metropolitan city committees will play a very good role in all movements, including the ongoing one for the unconditional release of our leader (Khaleda Zia)," he said.

Fakhrul made the remarks as the new conveners and member secretaries of Dhaka South and North city units met him at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.

"I think BNP's Dhaka city units have very good leadership," he observed.

As part of its ongoing move to overhaul the party, the BNP on Sunday announced convening committees for its Dhaka South, North, Chattogram, and Barisal city units.

Rafiqul Alam Mojnu was made the convener of the Dhaka South City unit while Tanvir Ahmed Robin was appointed as the member secretary.

Saiful Alam Nirob has been selected as the convener of the Dhaka North City unit with Aminul Haque as the member secretary.

The newly appointed leaders of the city units were given a three-month deadline to form the full committees of their respective units.
