Bangladesh voices serious concern over BSF's repeated killings
In response to the latest border killing, Bangladesh's interim government has urged India to investigate all such incidents, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on India to put an end to the recurrence of these "heinous acts."
The protest followed the killing of Md Kamal Hossain, a Bangladeshi from Sadar South upazila in Cumilla, who was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on October 7, 2024.
In a formal protest note sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Wednesday, Bangladesh expressed serious concern over the BSF's repeated killings despite commitments from Indian authorities to reduce these incidents to "zero."
The government of Bangladesh emphasized that such actions are "undesirable" and violate the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities of 1975. According to Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), a human rights organization, the BSF killed 31 Bangladeshis in 2023, with 28 fatalities due to gunfire. From 2009 to 2022, 563 Bangladeshis were reportedly killed by the BSF.
