'Tiger Robi' allegedly assaulted by Indian crowd during Kanpur Test

Bangladeshi cricket super fan, known as 'Tiger Robi', was allegedly assaulted by Indian spectators on the first day of the second Test match between Bangladesh and India on Friday at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.

Robi, a well-known supporter of the Bangladesh cricket team, was rushed to the hospital after being hit in the lower abdomen during the altercation. According to reports, Indian fans hurled verbal abuse at him from the start of the match. In an attempt to avoid further confrontation, Robi moved to a corner of the gallery to continue watching the game.

However, after the first session, Robi was attacked when he left the gallery, sustaining serious injuries and briefly losing consciousness due to a punch. "They hit me on my back and lower abdomen, and I couldn’t breathe," Robi told Sportstar after being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Local police, however, denied the assault claims. "One of our officers found him gasping for breath near the C block entrance, and he was struggling to speak. It seems like a case of dehydration, but we will wait for the doctors' advice," a police source said.

During the first session of the Test match, Robi was seen waving the Bangladesh flag and chanting slogans from the C block balcony. Allegedly, a confrontation occurred with other spectators, which led to the intervention of security personnel. Robi later claimed he had been beaten by a group of local spectators during the lunch break.

Indian police stated that they would review CCTV footage to investigate the allegations further.
