Shakib fined Tk 50 lakh for share price manipulation

Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been fined Tk 50 lakh by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for manipulating share prices, as confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

Currently in India for national team duties, Shakib was found guilty of manipulating the share price of Paramount Insurance Company Ltd during a BSEC meeting chaired by President Khondoker Rashed Maqsood. Other individuals were also penalized in connection with the case.

The BSEC press release stated that Shakib's actions violated the Securities Act, leading to the fine. This incident adds to a series of challenges for Shakib, who previously served as a Member of Parliament under the government led by Sheikh Hasina, which was ousted in a student-led uprising earlier this year.

Shakib has also been recently implicated in a murder case related to the protests. Although case documents allege his involvement in ordering the killings of protesters, no conviction or arrest warrant has been issued against him.
