Arrest warrant for Bacchu, 4 family members
A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for former BASIC Bank Chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu and four of his family members in a corruption case involving the concealment of Tk 94.75 lakh and evasion of Tk 8.53 lakh in taxes.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Joglul Hossain issued the warrant on Thursday after accepting the charge sheet in the case, as confirmed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam.
The case was initially filed by ACC Deputy Director Nurul Huda on October 3, 2023. ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Mohammad Neyamul Ahsan Gazi submitted the charge sheet to the court on June 5 of this year.
The arrest warrants also apply to Bacchu's wife, Shirin Aktar, his brother, Sheikh Shariar Panna, and his two sons, Sheikh Rafa Hye and Sheikh Shabid Hye.
Previously, on November 15 of last year, the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's Court ordered the confiscation of assets belonging to Bacchu and his family in connection with the BASIC Bank scandal.
