Case filed against Hasina and family over killing of fruit vendor

A case has been filed against 21 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul, in connection with the death of fruit vendor Farid Sheikh in Dhaka's Jatrabari area during a recent anti-discrimination student movement.

The case was lodged by Sultan Miah, the father of the deceased, with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahammed. After recording the complainant's statement, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter and submit a report.

According to the case documents, Farid Sheikh was shot by police at approximately 3:30 PM on August 4, near the southern end of the Mayor Hanif Flyover's Jatrabari toll plaza. He succumbed to his injuries two days later on August 6 at Mugda Hospital.

Among the other prominent individuals named in the complaint are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, and Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
