Tuku, Palak, Soikat put on 10-day remand
A Dhaka court today placed former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Dhaka University Chhatra League general secretary Tanvir Hasan Soikat on 10-day remand each, for murdering a rickshaw puller on July 19.
As the trio was produced before the court this afternoon, investigation officer of the case and Paltan Model Thana sub-inspector Mohammad Yusuf pleaded for 10-day remand for each, for the sake of proper investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam accepted the plea and remanded them for 10 days each.
According to the case, on July 19 at around 7pm, a clash broke out between some mobs and police near Paltan Model Thana Bot Tola Goli area.
Police fired several round of bullets aiming the miscreants, who were earlier vandalizing and setting parked vehicles in the area on fire.
During the clash, Kamal Mia, 39, received bullet injury. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Fatema Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a case with Paltan Model Thana the next day.
On Wednesday, Tuku, Palak and Soikat were arrested from the city's Nikunja residential area.
