Eight including BNP’s Rizvi remanded for five days

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed eight people including BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, and former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur to five-day remand in a case filed over setting fire to the metro rail station in Dhaka's Mirpur.
 
Five other accused are: BNP's Organising Secretary Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul, Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Dhaka North City unit Member Secretary Aminul Haque, BNP's Bagerhat unit Convener MA Salam, and activist Mahmudus Salehin.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order as the investigation officer of the case Md Asaduzzaman Munshi pleaded to show the accused arrested in the case and place them on 10-day remand.
 
According to the case statement, a mob of 5,000-6,000 people carried out vandalism in Kazipara metro rail station from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm on July 19.
 
They plundered expensive equipment and broke all the glasses, screens, and ticket vending machines, among other things, causing damages of around Taka 100 crore.
 
Among the accused, Nur is in jail in the vandalism case and arson attack at Setu Bhaban, and Rizvi is in jail after remand in a case filed at Paltan Model Police Station.
 
Six other accused are in jail after five-day remand in a case filed over vandalism and arson attack at BTV building. On July 22, Deputy Director (Administration) of MRT Line-6 of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, Imam Uddin Kabir, filed a case at Kafrul police station accusing 5,000-6,000 unnamed people.
