Clashes between police, BCL and quota protesters leave 6 dead

At least six people were killed and scores injured as violent clashes spread across the country among students, police and Bangladesh Chhatra League activists centering the students' demand for reforming quota system in government jobs.
 
Three people died in Chattogram and two in Dhaka and one in Rangpur district.
 
A violent clash between quota protesters and Chhatra League activists in Chattogram's Sholashohor to Muradpur area resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
 
Md. Saiful Islam, Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), confirmed the deaths of Akram, 24, a student of Chattogram College, and Faruq, 35, a pedestrian. The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.
 
Abu Sayeed, 22, a 12th batch student of Begum Rokeya University's English department, was killed during a clash between quota protesters and police on the campus in the afternoon, said police.
 
Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md Maniruzzaman confirmed the death.
 
An unidentified youth (aged around 25) was found dead near Dhaka College this afternoon amid ongoing clashes between quota protesters and Chhatra League activists.
 
Md Bachhu Miah, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the death, saying that two pedestrians, Akash and Mamun, had brought the body from the Dhaka College area.
 
Besides, a youth who was injured in Dhaka's Science Lab area died this evening. The exact cause of his death remains unconfirmed.
 
Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) reported that the youth, who was wearing black jeans and a navy blue T-shirt, was brought to the hospital by ambulance around 7pm . The on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
 
Several hundred people were injured, including some with bullets, as clashes spread in the capital and other parts of the country.
 
Amid the deteriorating law and order situation, the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi and Bogura since this afternoon.
 
Protesting students staged demonstrations blocking roads and highways across the country including Dhaka-Chittagong highway, Dhaka-Aricha, Khulna-Jashore, Dhaka-Barishal and Dhaka-Tangail highways.
 
Students of private universities and colleges took positions at different intersections in the capital in the morning and continued protests throughout the day chanting various anti-quota slogans.
 
Four students of Jagannath University were shot and wounded on Tuesday afternoon during demonstrations near the campus, coming as a shock to most people.
 
Among them, Ferdous Ahmed and Anik, of Management Department, suffered serious injuries.
 
They were taken to National Medical College Hospital.
