US tells its citizens to exercise caution in Bangladesh

The United States on Monday issued a travel advisory for Bangladesh telling its citizens to exercise more caution while travelling to Bangladesh amid student demonstrations against quotas in government jobs expanding significantly.

The protests, initially centered in Dhaka, have now spread to neighbouring areas and other cities across Bangladesh, creating an increasingly volatile situation. The embassy warns that these demonstrations may disrupt local transportation services, complicating travel in and out of Dhaka.

US citizens are advised to exercise heightened vigilance and remember that even peaceful demonstrations can quickly become confrontational and escalate into violence. The embassy recommends avoiding protest sites and large gatherings, and exercising caution in the vicinity of any significant assembly.

To ensure personal safety, US citizens are encouraged to take the following actions:
*Avoid large crowds and protests.
*Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
*Monitor local news for updates.
*Remain vigilant.
*Always carry a charged mobile phone for emergency communications.

The embassy urges all US citizens to review their personal security plans and stay informed about local events. Maintaining awareness and preparedness is crucial during this period of unrest, it says.
