Upsurge martyr Abdullah buried with state honours in Benapole

Abdullah, a martyr of the anti-discrimination movement, was buried with state honours and a guard of honour in his hometown, Bardaanchara, under Benapole Port Thana in Jashore.

His body reached his village on Thursday night, where grieving family members and hundreds of villagers gathered to bid him a final farewell.

Abdullah’s namaz-e-janaza was held at Benapole Ball Field, attended by thousands of people, including members of various professions and political groups like BNP and Jamaat.
Before the burial, a police team accorded him a guard of honour, and Sharsha Upazila Executive Officer Dr Rajib Hasan paid tribute by placing flowers on his coffin.

After the prayers, Abdullah was laid to rest beside his grandparents in the family graveyard.

A Tragic End to a Young Life

Abdullah (23), a third-year Political Science student at Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Dhaka, was actively involved in the anti-discrimination movement. He was shot in the head during a protest on August 5, near Tanti Bazar Moar in the Bangshal police station area of the capital.

Shot in the forehead, he lay injured on the road for two to three hours before being taken to Mitford Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where surgeons removed the bullet. Despite his critical condition, he was reportedly discharged on August 10 under disputed circumstances.

Abdullah’s family brought him home to Benapole, but his health deteriorated. He was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital on August 11 and later transferred back to DMCH on August 12 due to worsening complications, including a severe infection in his head.

As his condition continued to decline, Abdullah was moved to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on August 22. He passed away there on Thursday at 10 AM.

Mourning a Loss

Abdullah was the youngest of four siblings, born to Abdul Jabbar and Mabia Begum of Bardaanchara Terminal Para village. He was staying in Dhaka at his sister's house while pursuing his education.

His untimely death has left his family, friends, and the wider community in deep mourning, as thousands paid their respects during his funeral.
