Permanent travel ban imposed on Taqsem A Khan
A court here has imposed a permanent travel ban on former managing director (MD) and CEO of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Taqsem A Khan over allegations of corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jakir Hossain passed the order on November 13, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Investigation officer and ACC deputy director Syed Nazrul Islam filed the plea, saying the anti-graft body is probing allegations of corruption, plundering of crores of money amassed through illegal appointments against Taqsem and others. It was learned that the Taqsem is trying to escape the country and that is why the ACC has filed the plea.
Earlier on August 22, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain imposed a 60-day travel embargo on Taqsem.
Taqsem was first appointed as the MD and CEO of Dhaka WASA in 2009. In spite of allegations of gross misconduct and graft, his term was extended a couple of times. His term was extended for another three years in August, 2023. Recently after the ousting of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he finally resigned from the post.
