ICT issues arrest warrant against ex-DMP Commissioner, 16 others
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday issued warrants for the arrest of 17 former police officers including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman in connection with the July-August mass killings.
The three-member tribunal led by its chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order following a petition, said chief prosecutor of the tribunal Md Tajul Islam.
On October 17, the ICT issued warrants for arresting 46 people including ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader.
The ICT also asked the law enforcement agencies to produce them before the court within November 20.
The interim government has taken the decision to take action against those involved in the July-August mass killings through the ICT and a prosecution team and an investigating team were formed as part of it.
So far, 60 complaints have been lodged against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League and 14 party leaders and law enforcement agencies on charges of enforced disappearance and mass killings.
The ICT launched its activities officially on March 25, 2010 to try the war criminals.
