Govt officials ordered to file wealth statements within fortnight of filing taxes

All advisers and officials of equivalent ranks, along with their spouses, are required to submit their income and asset statements within 15 working days of the tax return submission deadline.

The Cabinet Division announced this rule in a gazette notification regarding the 'Policy on Disclosure of Statement of Income and Assets of Interim Government Advisers and Persons of Equivalent Rank, 2024,' issued on Tuesday (1 October).

According to the notification, officials must submit their statements to the chief adviser via the Cabinet Division.

Additionally, if their spouses have any separate sources of income, those income and asset statements must also be submitted to the chief adviser.

The new policy further specifies that the chief adviser will have the discretion to publish these statements in an appropriate manner.

The Cabinet Division has also prepared a form for the submission of income and asset declarations.

The Ministry of Public Administration has already announced that all government officials and employees must submit their asset declarations by December 31 each year. However, this year, they must submit it by November 30.
