Concerns raised over attacks on Bengali settlers in CHT
Students and residents of the Chittagong Hill Tracts have demanded an impartial investigation and justice following recent attacks and casualties involving both indigenous people and Bengalis in the region.
The demand was raised during a protest rally organized by Bengali students of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in front of the National Press Club on Monday, in response to alleged attacks, killings, and arson targeting innocent Bengali settlers.
Speakers at the rally included Mamun Bhuiyan, founding president of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens' Council, as well as Shahadat Hossain, president of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Students' Council, and General Secretary Md. Habib Azam.
Protesters asserted that the incidents in the hills were not isolated, but rather part of a conspiracy by remnants of past autocratic regimes aiming to destabilize the region. They claimed that various rumors are being spread on social media to provoke unrest in the area.
The speakers called for the immediate arrest of those responsible and urged continuous monitoring of the situation by law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order in the region.
