Chief adviser to meet minority leaders on Tuesday
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, is scheduled to meet with leaders of the minority community on Tuesday, according to Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon, Adviser Khalid Hossain addressed the recent attacks on minority communities, stating, "Those who attacked the minorities are miscreants and will be brought to justice."
He acknowledged receiving complaints of attacks on houses and places of worship belonging to religious minorities in various parts of the country. "The Ministry of Religious Affairs has always stood by the minority community, and it continues to do so now and in the future. We are currently collecting lists through deputy commissioners of the damaged places of worship, homes, and other properties," Khalid said.
The Adviser also mentioned that the government will assess the extent of financial assistance to be provided to the affected individuals in consultation with the Ministry of Finance.
"The severity of the attacks was heightened due to the temporary absence of police. However, with the police now actively involved, we are hopeful that such incidents will not recur," he added.
To further safeguard minority communities, Khalid announced the launch of a hotline number for reporting and preventing future attacks.
