BCL activists’ rooms at RU hall vandalised, 1 hall declared “politics free”
Quota protesters at Rajshahi University have once again demonstrated in protest of the attacks by Bangladesh Chhatra League and police on students across the country yesterday.
At around 10:45 am today the protesters brought out a procession from Shaheed Habibur Rahman ground of the university. The protesters vandalized at least 12 rooms of Chhatra League leaders and activists after going to Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall.
Earlier, from 10:00 am, the protesting students began gathering in groups at Shaheed Habibur Rahman ground. At 10:40 am, they started a protest procession.
The protesters also set fire to the bedding and other belongings of the Chhatra League members outside the rooms. Afterwards, they moved towards the women's halls in the western part of the campus.
The protesting students announced that they will place their demands in front of the Vice Chancellor's residence with the procession.
Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall has been declared "politics free." Some students of the hall submitted a written demand on behalf of the general students, and the provost signed it on Wednesday afternoon.
Professor Jahangir Hossain, the provost of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall, said the hall's students were feeling insecure due to various political reasons. "Therefore, to restore the environment, we have temporarily banned political activities in the hall. This temporary ban might be made permanent in the future."
