BCL attack on quota protesters leaves 20 injured in Feni

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists attacked a protest march by general students, resulting in injuries to at least 20 people, including a police officer, in the Shaheed Minar area on Trunk Road of Feni on Wednesday morning.

Early in the morning, Chhatra League activists blocked protesting students from entering the city. They stopped and searched students' bags as well.

Under the leadership of the district Chhatra League Vice President Joy, some students were beaten and taken inside Feni Government College.

As the protesting students moved from the Boro Masjid area towards Trunk Road, Chhatra League activists chased them.

Sajjad Hossain, a student, said, "We, the general students, came to the city in the morning for a peaceful programme. Chhatra League members obstructed and beat us at various points. When we reached Doel Chattar with our protest march, they suddenly attacked us with bricks and sticks. Several of our fellow students were injured."

Additional Superintendent of Feni Police, Muhammad Shahadat Hossain, said, "We are not yet sure who attacked whom or why. We are gathering intelligence on the matter."

Action will be taken after reviewing footage from surrounding CCTV cameras, he added.
