Court will decide on quota considering all sides' statements: Law Minister

Mentioning that anti-quota movement protesters have sought to intervene as a party in the state's appeal, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said, the Appellate Division will decide based on all sides' statements.

He said this while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Replying to a question regarding the government's stance, he said, " The Prime Minister has been very clear that the issue is now before the Supreme Court now. The Supreme Court will decide listening to all sides, and will give a fair decision," he said. "

Anisul further said on the protesters' petition to be party to the case, saying, "I have heard that they have applied to be a party in the case in the Appellate Division. The hearing will be tomorrow. In that case, I think they are on the right path."

Responding to the question whether the court may be influenced by the government, the law minister said, "I won't say anything about it because it's a subjudice matter (not yet judicially decided). As a law minister or from a legal perspective, I shouldn't say much."

"Matters of court should be discussed in court, not on the streets. Today, I see they (the protesters) have taken a significant step going to the court. My statement ends here. The rest will be seen in the court," he added.
