Inflation hits 13-year high at 11.66% in July
Bangladesh's inflation soared to a 13-year high in July, reaching 11.66 percent, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday (August 12). This marks a significant increase from the 9.72 percent recorded in June.
Food inflation experienced a sharp rise, hitting a record high of 14.10 percent in July, while non-food inflation stood at 9.68 percent. In contrast, June's food and non-food inflation rates were 10.42 percent and 9.15 percent, respectively. The previous overall inflation peak was 9.94 percent in May.
The student protests in July advocating for reforms in government job quotas have also exerted pressure on the economy, contributing to the inflationary trend.
