BB governor resigns

Controversial Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder has resigned, citing personal reasons. His resignation letter was submitted to the secretary of the Financial Institutions Division on Friday afternoon.

Governor Talukder has been absent from his office since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina following a popular revolt on Monday. This marks the first time in the central bank’s history that such an incident has occurred after a regime change, according to officials.

During Talukder's tenure, the banking sector experienced significant turmoil, contributing to the country's deteriorating economic situation, sources said.

Officials have emphasized the need for measures to ensure that those responsible for various irregularities, including Rauf Talukder, cannot flee the country.
